What I Hate About Forza 4

Although I bought it on release day, only during the last weeks I got to try out the new Forza 4 release. As usual it is a great 3d car encyclopedia, featuring countless cars. But unfortunately it is not really what I would call a racing simulation. There is not feeling of immersion whatsoever. Most of the races consist of you starting pretty low on the grid (there is no qualification process) and trying to overtake everybody as fast as possible, since the race is over after three laps or so.

Newspaper Review (Die Zeit)

“Die Zeit” is a German weekly newspaper, that is “highly respected for its quality journalism” (Wikipedia). Before subscribing to it earlier this year, I occasionally bought issues of it and was very fond of some of the interviews and comments in it and so I finally decided to give it a try.

Why Analogue Photography Can Still Make Sense

I recently bought an analogue camera and I’ll be trying to explain why… Some years ago I purchased my first DSLR, a Nikon D90, and had a lot of fun with it. I mostly used the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 (equivalent to ~53mm on full-frame cameras) and, more often than not, wide open and in black & white. (I guess some people call it “street photography”) The main problems with the camera were, that I didn’t have it with me all the time because of the body’s size and everybody and their brother noticed the rattling shutter/mirror.

Psi and Gnome 3

As Gnome 3 with gnome-shell omitted the window list panel and Psi notifies the user of new posts in a MUC by changing the window title, it’s simply not possible to follow a conversation in a MUC without repeatedly checking the chat window. (For at least as long as there is no window list extension, which will undoubtedly emerge eventually) Psi already properly alerts on changes in one on one chats, but for MUC windows it does it only for occurrences of certain keywords and the user’s own nickname, so the simplest way to work around the whole problem is just to patch Psi to alert on every post.
