Weird Street Map Joke on Google Maps

Today, as usual on a boring Sunday afternoon, I explored remote islands on Google Maps. As I did that I stumbled upon a pretty strange form of error, a sophisticated street network on an uninhabitated island.

The island of interest is Yunaska Island of the Islands of Four Mountains group in the Aleutian Islands. After some research I found out that everybody can edit the Maps and get it “reviewed” by some random other guy (who does not necessarily care…) and that is how invalid data gets into Google Maps. Maybe Google should start thinking about a more sophisticated vandalism detection process. If you are using Google Maps for navigation…think again!
